Detection Engines in Spybot
I am using G Data Total Security and installed Spybot Free Edition to run side-by-side for evaluation purpose. The deep-rooted spyware often fools the primary AV installed on machines therefore I plan to go with Spybot professional edition, running side-by-side, if the tools don't interfere during my evaluation period.
Can Spybot be used with my existing AV or not? Also, does Spybot relies on its own scanning engine or uses additional third-party engine as well? G Data uses two engines.
The regular file scan using G Data often fails to detect new malware but when the file is executed, other components of G Data successfully intercept them. So far in my evaluation, Spybot free edition is not imposing any burden on system resources because the real-time scan might not be running. Scanned few new malware samples using Spybot but it returned them Clean so want to know if the free edition has heuristics capabilities or not.
