1.6 doesn't find anything.

Originally had 1.5, then when about to scan abt. 10 days ago I rec'd a msg that the new 1.6 was available. I completed a scan w/1.5, then downloaded & installed 1.6. Immunized, scanned w/1.6 which found about 10 more spywares than 1.5 had just found. Yay, or so I thought. Ever since then scans find nada :sad:. I'm using all the default settings-haven't ever changed a thing. I finally had a small lightbulb moment, checked installed programs & found that, sure enough, 1.5 was still installed. Uninstalled it & ran CCleaner, but the prob persists. I know I must need to do something else, but what? Should I uninstall 1.6 & start over?

What version of Spybot - Search & Destroy are you actually running? Go into Spybot » Help » About?

What is it that you are expecting it to find? If you are doing things right and not doing risky surfing than it is normal not to find anything.

Since you are trying to relate current scans with older scans, it may be helpful if you posted one of the results from an older scan where you were detecting the problems that you do not seem to be detecting now.

By default here are two Checks.yymmdd-hhmm.log files produced during a scan. The second Checks.yymmdd-hhmm.log has the details of what the scan found. A Fixes.yymmdd-hhmm.log file is produced if you fix or attempt to fix something.

There are two methods to copy and post the information from previous scans:
  • Method 1:
    • Go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced mode > Tools > View Reports > View Previous reports. Look for the Checks.yymmdd-hhmm.log or Fixes.yymmdd-hhmm.log file that contains the detections that you like help with. Open it. To copy it to the Clipboard, right click on the listing and select Select All > Right click again and select Copy. Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of the Clipboard into a new post in this thread.
  • Method 2
    • The Checks.yymmdd-hhmm.log and Fixes.yymmdd-hhmm.log files are stored in the following folders:
      • Windows 95 or 98:
        C:\Windows\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Logs
      • Windows ME:
        C:\Windows\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Logs
      • Windows NT, 2000 or XP:
        C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Logs
      • Windows Vista:
        C:\ProgramData\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Logs
    • Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the correct Checks.yymmdd-hhmm.log or Fixes.yymmdd-hhmm.log file. Double click on it and it should open with Notepad. To copy it to the Clipboard, right click on the listing and select Select All > Right click again and select Copy. Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of the Clipboard into a new post in this thread.

I'm running 1.6 now. This report's fairly average. I know it's all just tracking cookies, but reports like that had been coming up 1 or 2X@wk, so I thought it was strange when I started getting the "Congratulations" msg instead. W/1.5 I got it occasionally, but not repeatedly every time I ran Spybot. I'm going to the same sites w/1.6 as w/1.5. I don't do any risky surfing-craigslist, clothing sites, email, catnip suppliers :laugh:, that sort of thing. Sometimes 1.5 found spyware & not just tracking cookies.
 
If I'm correct, Spybot-Search&Destroy does not scan for "user trackage" by default. The user will have to run Spybot-SD in Advanced Mode and go to the 'File Sets' tab and tick the 'User Trackage' option.

From your log, Spybot-SD is detecting tracking cookies which are normal from a browsing session. Don't worry, they are not malicious. I can explain to you that if you're getting this (the tracking cookie entries) everytime you scan with Spybot-SD (1.5.2.20) it just means that you picked up the cookie along with your usual browsing session.

Thanks for telling me how to have SB get rid of them when I scan. I knew they were more or less harmless, I just don't care to be tracked :).

Funny, I think 1.5 just found & eliminated tracking cookies as a matter of course-when I first installed it I wouldn't have known enough to have been able to set it to find them if it wasn't a default function of normal, everyday for-newbies-like-me scans :p:.

:laugh: Spybot-SD would find them (cookies) when you instructed Spybot to perform a scan.

Well, a workaround for me would be just manually clearing the cookies in the browsing so Spybot-SD does not detect it :santa:.

Hello,

In older versions there might be more found in a scan than in the newest version.
That refers to the cookies.
Doubleclick and others like Advertising.com, Avenue A, Inc, CasaleMedia, Fastclick, Hitbox, Mediaplex etc. are so called tracking cookies. We have improved the detection for this cookies and rated some as not bad. So this is ok, nothing to worry. ;-)
