Blocking Updates

Hi

I have a laptop running XP Pro and it may have a malware problem I can not update the following programs via the update option - Sypbot, Adaware and AVG , Sophos will install but not update. All the programs give essentially the same error of not being able to contact the server.

I have run, spybot, Adaware, AVG, rootkit revealer, bootvis, process explorer and hijackthis. Nothing obvious was seen. How and where would this activity be blocked - no firewall are running (as far as I can tell). I can brows the web with no problems and other network activity seem normal, I can download files from a server, ping etc. Some clues as to what to do next wold be most appreciated.

Martin, I do not know if I can help with these problems, but I would be glad to look if you would provide the information reqested in the link above.
