Can I safely delete the FRST folder?

Hello, I wasn't sure which forum this fit better under, sorry if I got the wrong place (my original thread has already been closed).

I was already helped to repair my computer, and now that it's been a while I'm deleting all the .exe folders that I downloaded for all the tests/scans to get the logs for the helpers to look at. I was curious if I can safely delete the "FRST" folder that is directly under the C: drive? Here's a screen shot of what I mean: http://i.imgur.com/3nyjLIb.jpg

The folder has subfolders in it called "Hives," "Logs," and "Quarantine" and they all have stuff in them.

I didn't want to just right-click and delete the folder without making sure it's okay and that I don't need to do anything else first.

Yes, we can remove all the tools we used in the cleaning

Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool again.
  • Click on the Uninstall button.
  • Click Yes when asked are you sure you want to uninstall.
  • Both AdwCleaner.exe, its folder and all logs will be removed.

Please download DelFix and save the file to your Desktop.



  • Windows XP Double Click DelFix.exe to run the program.
  • Windows Vista > Win 7 > Win 8 Right Click on DelFix.exe and select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR
  • Checkmark " Remove Disinfection Tools"
  • Click the Run button

This will remove the specialised tools we used to clean your system. Any leftover logs, files, folders or tools remaining on your Desktop which were not removed can be deleted manually

Sorry about that... I did read that my original thread would close after 3 days if no replies came in, I just got caught up with other things and didn't remember to go back and let you know things were still running smoothly. Thank you again for your help, by the way!

I wish I would have posted here first before I deleted things! I actually already deleted any .exe that was in my download folder. I looked at the list of installed programs under the control panel and since none of them appeared to be actually "installed," I thought it was okay to just delete the .exe file by right-clicking. But then the FRST folder was still under my C drive and I wasn't so sure if it was safe to delete. Looks like I shouldn't have deleted the .exe since now I can't open AdwCleaner.exe to click the uninstall button.

If I just run the DelFix will that uninstall them all, even though I deleted the .exe folders already?

Darn it, wish I could edit my last post... I just realized that I never had AdwCleaner.exe to begin with (I re-read my other threads and looked at all the instructions you gave), so looks like all I need to do is the DelFix. I will do that. :)
 
I ran the DelFix file through VirusTotal and it came back as 6/56 detections: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/...985213d88fcc2e4a7c403637/analysis/1426731588/

Is that safe to use? I downloaded it but hadn't ran it yet, then when I saw the VirusTotal result, I deleted it, lol. Maybe it is safe, but I get paranoid.

I backtracked to see what I used when you were helping me originally... these are the only things I downloaded/used:

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool
aswMBR.exe
MiniToolBox.exe
And even though I was asked to download Malwarebytes, I didn't because I already have the paid version and used that.

My Malwarebytes won't get uninstalled if I run the DelFix.exe will it?

So far, before posting and asking first :( , I just deleted all 3 of those .exe files from my computer by right-clicking. Now all I can physically "see" that remains on my computer is the FRST folder under the C drive.

Do you still think DelFix is what I should do?

Sorry for being so annoying and posting 3 times all at once. I should've waited and only posted once. You are probably really busy!

A lot of our tools are flagged by some Anti Virus programs as a virus or infected but they are not, I certainly would not have you download and run a program that would harm your computer

Go ahead and run Delfix
 
Okay, I just finished running DelFix and it deleted everything as far as I can tell. :)

P.S. I sometimes hear about the sites that offer the downloads getting hacked and then it makes whatever program you get from them also infected (e.g. someone told me not to get my Defraggler updates from Filehippo since the site gets hacked sometimes) so that was my only concern after I saw the red show up on VirusTotal, but I didn't know that some things get mistakenly flagged like you said. I knew no one here would intentionally tell me to download something that was bad. I didn't mean any disrespect, I'm just inexperienced with viruses and stuff so it makes me super paranoid.
 
You know what, today lots of companies are trying to increase there revenue, some sites now add other not needed garbage to there downloads. A good example is Java update by Oracle, if you don't read what its installing and just click through the prompts, it will install the Ask Toolbar and search engine replacing Google. Windows has some nice built in features so there is no need for most 3rd party programs like defraggers and such. Generally speaking if there is a program you want, bypass places like CNET and the like and go right to the manufacturers website to download it.
