Can not download

I have avg and anti vir which when I click on will not appear and will not work so affectively I have no antivirus programme, I cant remove them and I can not download any other programme.
Would appreciate any help. J.D.

More details please, operating system and other security applications installed.

How long have you had two anti virus programs installed?
Rule of thumb is one Firewall and one AntiVirus to avoid conflicts and loss of program efficiency.

Thank you for answering my post, I have windows vista and have had avg and antivir almost from the start e.i. late December 2008.
It is only since February that I got a Windows Security Alert which said (you have multiple antivirus programes but none of them are turned on) I have tried to turn one or both on with no results including turning of Firewall briefly, I can not delete them and I can no longer download anything.
Other programes that I have are Ad-Aware, Malwarebytes Anti-malware and Spybot.
Once again I would appreciate any help that can be given. J.D.
