Dear Spybot team,
I have been unable to remove this infection, I believe I got this infection from stupidly downloading and installing this "Vplayer" application from a pornographic site (huge mistake obviously to download anything from a porn site, which I knew but now that I have had to pay the consequence with this Trojan infection, it is something I will NEVER do again!). I promptly uninstalled the application after it did not work. I suspect this because the log files from the program that I downloaded from c-net.com "Ashampoo anti spyware 2" I have used several programs to try and remove it but I cannot. As a last ditch attempt to fix the problem I went into system 32 in windows explorer and deleted suspicious files which had characters like "notavirus" and "trojandownloader" contained inside the file name. Deleting those files did NOT fix the problem. It probably was a bit of a risk to try and do that, but I have just been so frustrated over this.
After doing some research I found that this must be a rootkit infection and going in system 32 only confirmed this as there were HUNDREDS of files with suspicious names. My firewall (Zone Alarm Extreme Security) has continuiously detected a file entitled " C:\Windows\System32\gxvxcpvegeudqbpbiyjbfsmqpsecucstodwjp.dll" when it runs an automatic "On-Access" scan when I go to start firefox or internet explorer. At first, Zone would go and quarantine the file, now it says it cannot quarantine or rename the file, and when it goes to delete the file under the action taken it says "deleting..." then quickly you can see "error" before it then says "deleted". When I did an ultra deep virus scan, and a deep inspection spyware scan nothing was found but a few objects of "Low" significance. I also have had issues installing spybot (I tried several times), in which my system would blue screen and do a memory dump towards the end of the installation, which, then messed up the install. This memory dump occurs several times per day, and is obviously quite aggravating, I am not sure if it is due to my low ram (1GB which I hear is on the low side for Vista) or if it is due to the infection. I assume it must be both, but I never had this issue before the trojan so I assume it is due to the trojan. Also, Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and AdAware will not launch. As mentioned in the first paragraph of this post, I was able to search around c-net.com downloads and found a program named "Ashampoo Anti Spyware 2" which had also detected the trojan and quarantined the item but it still apparently has not worked because the on-access scan continues to run and detect the trojan upon launching Firefox or internet explorer. I was having a lot of browser redirects, but was able to stop this after several virus and spyware scans. I tried running the "rootkit buster" program but was unable to get this to work either.
