Can't Open or Run Spybot

I am unable to open or run Spybot. I uninstalled it and then installed it again, and am having the same problem. I double click on the icon on my desktop and it starts to process it but then nothing opens.

I noticed that I have this thing called 'frmMain' running a lot and don't know what it is. It shows up when I check my task manager.

I did a search for it and it may be malware. I stop it from running and try to open Spybot and it still won't open or run.

Any ideas or help would be most appreciated. Please let me know what other info I need to provide.

Are you having any problems with other security software, which ones do you have installed?

Also what is your operating system.

My OS is Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I have Avast for antivirus and no problems and no detections in a long time. I also have PC Spyware Doctor that runs and updates everyday - finds infections regularly that are low but I have them removed.

I also have PC Registry Mechanic and run it daily - it always finds "problems" in my registry with deep scan, extensions and something else usually about 7 to 10 problems - seems to be the same ones.

I am running a scan with bitdefender right now.

I haven't run spybot in a while - probably 30 days.

I installed service pack 2 for Vista since i last ran spybot.

I have the same problem, yet this is happening with every scan software I try. Have been told it is a maxx++ rootkit as well as win32k.sys rootkit.. I am having a nightmare trying to fix this!

Keeps telling me that the spyware.exe file is read only...

Thank you, I have downloaded Erunt and getting ready to install it to back up my registry then will download HJT to get logs and post in the malware removal forum. I am in the middle of running bitdefender for viruses, it's scanning every file and taking a very long time. I will pause it and then start with the registry backup, etc.
