Constant Pop-up ads

Okay, I'm trying to help out my Father-In-Law, he's getting constant pop-up ads on his laptop.

I was able to download and back-up the registry with ERUNT, but I'm having difficulty downloading HijackThis. When I click on either the Installer or Executable link Internet Explorer just returns a window saying it cannot display the page. I tried to right click and save target but gett error this way too.

Please download RootRepeal from one of these locations and save it to your desktop

• Click the
  
  button.
• Check just these boxes:
• 
• Push Ok
• Check the box for your main system drive (Usually C:, and press Ok.
• Allow RootRepeal to run a scan of your system. This may take some time.
• Once the scan completes, push the
  
  button. Save the log to your desktop, using a distinctive name, such as RootRepeal.txt. Include this report in your post.
