continuous popup new windows, followed "BEFORE you Post"

hi All,

I ran Kaspersky, see log below. I ran repeatedly Spybot-S&D and it's clean. I ran HiJackThis, see log below. But I'm still getting popup new windows. Prior to doing these 3 step I tried different things hopefully it didn't make it worst than before. Also, I previously ran Spybot-S&D but not repeatedly then I ran immunize. As of now, I'm continue getting popup and Spybot warns me someone is trying to change the registry.

All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

You are good and infected, I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
This can be a tough infection to remove so do not expect fast or easy. How did you get this computer this infected? I see OIN/PurityScan, Vundo, Wareout:

and a bunch of junk I can not even identify. Please follow the instructions in the posted order, be sure to create the HJT log after all other tools have been run.

1) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

2) Thanks to LonnyBJones and anyone else who helped with this fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to yourDesktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log in the forum please.

(wait until you finish to post reports and logs)

"Download VundoFix" to your Desktop

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
When VundoFix opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will attempt run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click
the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot. Vundofix.txt will be on the C:\

(wait until you finish to post reports and logs)

It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop

Download ComboFix from Here to your Desktop

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the report from Fixwareout, the Vundofix.txt, combofix log and a new HJT log.

I left my pc on for days and next time I use it there were 30 IE opened. I tried to remove the virus using HJT like I have done many successfully for couple years. But this time it didn't work. I tried for 12 hours removing suspicious programs ProgramFile and Window/System32, ran McAfee, Adware but to no avail. That's when I followed the 3 steps in spybot. I will get back to you with result tonight.

Do you think this is solvable or I pretty much need to reformat?

Ran FixWareout see log below.
Ran VundoFix but it has no infection, hence no log.

Ran Combofix, see log below. After reboot while it was writing the log Windows try to open "RABCOse.exe" but it didn't what to use. I cancelled that dialog box.

Ran HiJackHit, see log below. I notice RABCO is still there but it seems to be in some ...\Quarantine\... dir. Also I see sysobj.exe there.

Open IE to post this. So far it looks promising, no unwanted popup has occurred yet.

Ran VundoFix but it has no infection, hence no log.

Please post the logs I request, if I did not need to see them, I would not ask for them. As I said in the instructions you can find the Vundofix report here:

This item: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sysobj.exe] sysobj.exe may be gone, but I doubt it. I believe it is here: C:\WINDOWS\system32\sysobj.exe and we must make sure it is gone. Before we start, make sure all files and folders are showing:

now use Search Companion to search for that file to be sure where it is located, you will need that information in a moment.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sysobj.exe] sysobj.exe
O4 - Startup: RABCO - Auto Update.lnk = C:\QooBox\Quarantine\C\Program Files\RABCO\RABCOse.exe.vir

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Right click Start > Explore and navigate to these files/folders and delete them if there.

sysobj.exe <<< delete that file if it is still on your computer

C\Program Files\RABCO\ <<< make sure that folder and contents is gone

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log and tell me how the computer is running.

I am sure you saw this:

Review that information to understand Recovery Console. Installation is optional but if you do not have the CD's needed, as is explained, it can be installed before we remove combofix.

Hi,

Searched and didn't find sysobj.exe.

Ran HJT and fixed sysobj and RABCO.
Removed RABCO from C:\QooBox\Quarantine\C\Program Files\RABCO\

Ran ATF Cleaner.

Reran HJT, see log below. Everything runs good with no popups or new popup windows. But when I was viewing a video from "New York Post" it required me temporary allow popup. When I finished and exit the window 3 window popup similar to the problem I had previously. One warning say I'm infected, the other 2 were IE window to other sites. Then I view an other video from the Post but it didn't need temporary popup being disable and after finished and exited, no popups. What does it mean?

You understand these hackers can infect any webpage they want. Many folks will get infected before the owners of the website realize they are infected and take the site down to clean it.

Your HJT log appears to be clean of malware. We have infected System Restore files to clean, this will check for anything else. Remove all tools we downloaded with the exception of ATF-Cleaner, you may keep it if you wish. Make sure to delete the C:\qoobox\quarantine\ folder and the C:\Vundofix Backups\ folder, then run a KOS using these settings.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Then post it here.

Thanks for returning the KOS results, please follow these instructions.

1) (delete the files/folders in red)

5) C:\RECYCLER\ <<< empty the Recycle Bin
(do you have other users on this computer? If so make sure to empty their RB also, and I will need to see a HJT log while signed in to their user account)

6) Restart the computer

7) Use these instructions to clean infected System Restore files.

Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot

Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

I have 2 other accounts, one being admin and the other non-admin. The admin HJT log is below. When I run HJT using non-admin account, it complaint about running from a tmp space. I copied to its folder and run it. Then it complaint it could write to C:\Window\ dir.

Couple more questions:
1. login I get a warning that it couldn't run/load C:\Windows\System32\dvhgxyey.dll.

2. I'm running a free McAfee version at least 4 years back. Do you recommend any better and free anti-virus protection? I using NJ Optimal online as my ISP; I'm not sure if they're suppose to give their customers free anti-virus protection.

3. should I run Tea Timer together with McAfee? If I get a popup from TT, does it mean I'm already infected and it's trying to change my registry?

Where is it installed...exact location.

These messages occur often as Vundo is being removed from a computer and they should stop once you are clean.

When we finish I will post information from security/malware experts, once you read what they have to say, if you still have questions, post them.

I personally use Spybot but not TeaTimer, but I see no reason why it should not run fine with McAfee. You should do this:
Open Spybot S&D 1.5.2 and click on Help Then choose the "Search Tab and type TeaTimer then List Topics. You will be presented with the information you need to know to use TeaTimer effectively.

We have issues yet and it may be caused by the TeaTimer memory, please follow these directions as we find out. Please read and follow the directions carefully.

1) Make sure TeaTimer is DISABLED

2) Download ResetTeaTimer.bat.

Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat
to remove all entries set by TeaTimer (and preventing TeaTimer to restore them upon reactivation).

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Start Hijackthis
Click on the Config button
Click on the Misc Tools button
Click on the button labeled Delete a file on reboot...
A new window will open asking you to select the file that you would like to delete on reboot. Navigate to the file: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\dvhgxyey.dll and click on it once, and then click on the Open button.
You will now be asked if you would like to reboot your computer to delete the file. Click on the Yes button if you would like to reboot now.

Restart and post a new HJT log with your feedback.

hi,

done 1 - 3. In #4, I couldn't find dvhgxyey.dll but the later on reboot/relogin don't have this warning anymore. Perhaps it was fixed in steps 1-3.

For the non-admin account, I copied HJT from the standard "C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe" to C:\Documents and Settings\Guest01\MyDocuments. Although it complains running from tmp space and advised to run as admin I still able to run it and get the HJT log, see below.

Thanks for returning your information, If you must run HJT from here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Guest01\My Documents\guestHjt.exe
Create a folder in My Documents and call it HJT, move HJT.exe, any logs and backups if this is used will be stored there also. Looks like this:
C:\Documents and Settings\Guest01\My Documents\HJT\guestHjt.exe
