Contra Virus removal help

corrupted user profile?

Hi thanks for replying so promptly.

Sorry for a slow reply, my internet connection keeps dropping.

The other user profiles seem to work ok. So I assume my profile has become corrupted. I am following instructions on the Microsoft website to create an new profile and to copy over my data http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151

It's a lengthy process, and I need to go to work tomorrow. So I will have to continue this tomorrow.
 
quick situation update

I appear to have most of my documents and folders. For some strange reason I have completely lost Outlook 2007. When I entered it in my original profile it asked me to set up a new account - I have no record of any emails, task, calendar etc.

I do have a pst file. Is there some way I can access the files?

You should be able to open .pst file with Outlook. However, you wrote that it has somehow got lost. Is it possible to reinstall it?
 
phew! outlook files successfully reinstalled

Yes, I've found the file and have reinstalled Outlook (with all my old folders and messages) in a new profile. So all appears to be well.

I now need to back everything up.

Apparently, when big changes are made to files it can cause a profile to become corrupted, so I think that's what happened here. And probably mine because I have a lot of folders and files connected to teaching and research.

I'm just so relieved I have my emails :)

I will let you know in a couple of days whether things are still okay with the computer and no more strange happenings.
