Delete v Quarantine

Why do I have the choice of either deleting or quarantining any Virus when I do a scan. Surely if you quarantine then it is still in a folder on your hard drive, whereas if I delete it then it's gone?

I haven't found any, it's just the option every time I do a scan and wondered.

The primary reason for a quarantine option is to provide a back-up copy so that the object can be restored if necessary.

Usually the quarantined version of the object has been altered in some way so that it is no longer a threat even though it is still on your hard drive.

Thank you for that.

So it's more a case of it may not be a virus but looks like one so is put in a file in case it is needed and then it can be restored.
