Error 10061 Again!

I have read the discussions of Socket Error 10061 and am still puzzled about how to proceed. I only recently started getting this message after having experienced no difficulties with updates for a couple of years. I have had the same DSL service for four years and have not changed any settings on my computer. I am reluctant to go down the "proxy server" path that has been recommended. Should I try uninstalling and reinstalling?

Do you know if you use a proxy?
If you don't,maybe it's a firewall problem.There are instructions here:

I do use a proxy, but the fact is that I always have and it's only now that I am getting the error message. I will check out the links for the firewall problem. Thanks.

Problem solved?

I uninstalled and reinstalled Spybot S&D, and the problem has gone away --at least for now. I can update normally without the error message.
