Firefox Beta security?

You guys helped me recently and I didn't really know where else to ask this question, so I figured I'd give it a shot...

Anyone happen to know whether or not I'm inviting trouble by using a Beta version of Firefox (Firefox 3.0 Beta 2)? Is it likely that there'll be more security holes since it's a beta release, will security updates come more slowly, etc?

I'm really enjoying the new browser, but it's not really worth opening up my computer to a host of nastiness just to play around with a new toy.

Hi Quason!

It is Honda, your local browser enthusiast. I am writing this message with Firefox 3 beta 2 right now! Anyway, of course any beta holds risks, but firefox is an already safe browser and there is no signs that it has major security holes in it. You have to remember the development of firefox 3 involved, I think 7 alphas, and now this is the 2nd beta. Nearly all of the problems would have been caught out and solved during the alpha stages, and any others caught out and fixed in the beta 1. In this beta 2, the aim was just to 'refine' the features established in beta 1 (and to fix loads of memory leaks!)

Firefox 3 beta 2 is still only recommended to be a release for developers though. So no matter how much I think it is great and safe for most users. I think it would be best to just wait for the final release!

Honda :)

Firefox 3 Beta is quite safe. With NoScript addon, it should further secure it. The developer is always up to date, so no worries on that.
