..uh...um...isn't it the default skin?...
..i'm not sure how that could affect the status bar.
...due to this problem there didn't seem to be any visual
confirmation of what SS&D was searching for or the number
of things in its database it would look for...
...anyway after a 14hr caffiene-fest...
i finally got this problem fixed
-i think-
i'm not sure even what caused it.
i'd had a problem with MsIE6 not showing the Privay Tab
in Internet Options -so i couldn't block anysites there
--hmmm---
i'd had some problems with uninstalling SS&D before
i had tried to remove and reinstall because of this
and kept getting errors due to locked registry keys
but, here are the steps i used:
ran CCleaners'(
www.ccleaner.com) "Crap Cleaning" tool
-set "options" to ignore files newer than 48 hrs
-custom folders to clean ALL users temp files
forced a re-install of MsIE 6 via CMD window
-Start -Run "CMD"
(-%%[]%%- one line single space)
-%%[ rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE"
/g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt ]%%-
restarted per forced MsIE 6 re-install
MsASb tells me that the Security settings in MsIE are set
BELOW Default settings
--hmmm---
Opened Internet Options from Control Panel
-set all Zones to Default levels
(used "Default Level" and "Apply" buttons for each Zone )
and checked the "Sites" button in each for any wierd sites
especially in "Trusted Zone"
(set "Trusted Zone" to require Server verification https

--hmmm---
( i keep MsIE only because most of my clients as this
writing refuse to change to FF or other mozilla based browser)
ran F-Secures' Blacklight Beta

ran Sysinternals' RootKitReveal
Inspected NTFS MetaData -0 unknown hidden Data

started Win2k in Safe mode used the registry hive editor
(regedt32.exe) to assign an 'adiministrator' account
full permission to all keys and sub keys.
restarted normal mode
logged into previously noted 'adiministrator' account
used "Add/Remove Programs"
removed SS&D v1.4
ignored all errors
ran PC Tools Registry Mechanic
-Deep Scan -repaired all errors found(deleted)

www.ccleaner.com) "Registry Issue Cleaning" tool
-Backed up changes and Fixed All issues found
restarted Win2k in Safe mode
deleted all files in SS&D home directory
( \Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy )
restarted normal mode
used "remove-spybotsd-settings.reg"
(available at safer-networking site)
used the registry editor (Regedit.exe) to
remove all deadwood keys -basically all old unistalled
program reference keys-
(have not found any single apps that does this completely
-and i have tried many!!!)
restarted normal mode
logged into same account
again ran PC Tools Registry Mechanic
-Deep Scan -repaired all errors found(deleted)

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE]
[HKEY_USERS]
[HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG]
double-checked for all deadwood keys in exported files of:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE]
ran SS&D v1.4 installer chose NOT to start SS&D
closed SS&D v1.4 installer
then ran the downloaded "spybotsd_includes.exe"
from
www.spybotupdates.com on or around 12-20-2005
ran SS&D noted i had a status bar
immunized(checked again)
checked for problems
-found IE standard(Alexa Related) -fixed
scan completed under 20 minutes
(32+GB of files)
ran online update
chose Safer Networking#2
immunized
checked for problems
-found 0 probs
again scan was under 20 minutes
retarted windows
re-ran SS&D
immunized
checked for problems
-found 0 probs
again scan was under 20 minutes
so far i still have a status bar
:beerbeerb
the only thing i can think was happening was my registry
was corrupted or "owned" by some key left behind by some
crappy software.
Note: i don't use the "TeaTimer" on any machine below XPsp1
