Hello all. First, great site! I wish I'd found it before I did the fourteen thousand things I found posted on other sites.
I ran into a problem with popups, music playing for no apparent reason, and slow system performance. I've run a multitude of tools, and things have gotten much better. For posterity, the tools I've run thus far are:
Virtumondo9
sting380
sysclean.com
SmitFraudFix
CCleaner
RogueRemover
Microsoft's MalWare removal tool
VundoFix
Lavasoft Ad-Aware 2007
However, I still have one problem that I can't seem to shake. I've run and re-run Spy Bot Search and Destroy, with updated definitions, both in and out of safe-mode. Every time, however, it comes up with a single Virtumonde infection. The entry shows up like this:
(SBI $1F8EC695) Settings Registry Key
HKEY)_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSMGR
I fix it, and rerun SB S&D, and it finds it again. Note that NONE of the other applications find anything. I tried running the Kaspersky online tool, but it wouldn't initialize on my system (regular mode, or safe mode with networking). I did run the 2.0.2 version of HijackThis, and will paste in the log in a second response to this thread (to keep the posting from exceeding the 20000 character limit).
To summarize my current symptoms (aside from the entry found by SB S&D), the system is slower. I have been keeping the system offline, so I get repeated requests to connect, which I always just cancel. Since I've been keeping it offline, I'm not sure if there are any popups trying to spring up or not.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Dave
