Hi!

With regard to Java, it's not on my add/remove list, but is it possible I actually have it? If so, how do I go about removing it, in order to download new Java?

With regard to your recommended spyware programs, I had loaded Windows Defender, and a couple others from your 'how did I get infected' thread. Then I switched from Norton to Kaspersky. I had problems with the new Kaspersky, and besides instructing me to make sure the Norton was completely removed, they recommended I remove Windows Defender and the other two, can't remember the names...maybe spywaregard and spywareblaster, in order to make my computer faster. Any thoughts? Will Kaspersky act as a spyware guard?

Thanks.

I assume that this is a follow-up question from the following January 2008 thread:
It is quite possible that you never downloaded and installed Sun Microsystems' Java. From the HijackThis log that you posted in the following thread (if it is for the same system that you are now inquiring about), it does not appear that Sun Microsystems Java is being run on the system:
There is evidence of the presences of IBM's Java but it does not appear that there is actually a started process for it.

I suggest that if you want to install the latest copy of Sun Microsystems' Java (Sun Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6) and actaully need it since it seems to me that you may be running without it, just install it since you did not find an older version in Add/Remove Programs to remove.

Busted! Very sorry, I'd completely forgotten Tashi had answered that question.

Thanks for your, and everyone else's help!
