Hi,

I made the huge mistake of installing cyberdefender on my pc. I uninstalled it but there is still this annoying browser hi-jacking that I can't get rid of. This is what happens: If you type anything in the address bar of IE with the page currently in, let's say Yahoo, it redirects me to a new search engine called "MyIdentityDefender" with all the search result links. I can't get rid of this. Neither Cyber defender nor MyIdentityDefender are in my Add/Remove programs list. I called Cyber Defender and they tried to blame it on malware on my pc. I told them that it was THEIR malware and I need to get rid of it. They wanted to transfer me to one of their technicians and charge me for it. Wow, what a scam. Can anbody help me remove this?

Things I've tried:
-Hyjackthis.
-Spy Bot latest version.

Thanks,
Joe

I ran a scan and looked for entries that looked like their malware. I'm at work right now but I can re-run it at home later tonight if you want.

The Spybot-SD forum does not deal with HJT logs, in other words just means that you can't post them here :santa:.

Erm. I was just curious. Do you know what entries you were removing? I mean like confirmed? Because I would suggest you reconsider fixing entries that "look like" malware.

Don't recall exactly, but thanks for helping.

So can this forum help me? Am I wasting my time here? Is there a reason why Spybot doesn't remove MyIdentityDefender? A few years ago this issue was brought up in your forum. The thread was old so I started my own.

Thanks,
Joe

Yes, the forum can assist you in purging the malware. In case you didn't notice, the Malware Forums are available for you to post a thread requesting help. Spybot-SD currently does not detect "MyIdentityDefender", maybe you can start a thread in the "New or Undetected" subforum and request the addition.

Consider posting in the Malware Removal forum and having someone take a look at your system.

If you decide to have an experienced malware removal specialist assist you, please follow the procedure in this link to run scans and produce a HijackThis log:---

Thanks again for the help. I am a member of a few forums out there and I know how frustrating it can be with newbees (me).

Admin, can you please delete this thread? I started a new one in the Malware forum.

The Moderators don't usually "delete" or remove the threads unless the contents (responses/replies) did not comply with forum rules or was inappropriate. Rather than remove it, the thread will be in this forum (Spybot-SD). It won't be placed in Archives, but just simply within pages of threads, so any one can find it.

The instructions are in my previous post.

Good luck.
