I've been accumulating a lot of uninvited (at least not intentionally) junk; bots, spyware, malware PUP's...you name it. I've been lurking on this forum for a couple of weeks and really see that you guys/gals are doing a wonderful job by providing this service. I ran through the "Before you Post" protocols and would appreciate an expert's opinion on how best to attack the problems found in the following logs...

Starting to move a little faster...

HJT Log follows message...

Some programs (Outlook and IE) are loading noticably faster. SBS&D seems sluggish. Just so that you know...

My home network consists of this desktop (hardwired to a router), a laptop (wireless to the same router), a printer (with a card reader; Drive Z) and a Maxtor 300 GB network drive also hanging off the router. In doing a Kaspersky scan on my laptop (which took 12 hours), it also scanned the mapped drives on the Maxtor and found TONS of bad stuff. The Maxtor contains mirrored volumes for both the laptop and the desktop. How should we go about handling that situation? I'm afraid we might just be continuously vulnerable to attacks from the network drive.

What do you think?

I'm afraid we might just be continuously vulnerable to attacks from the network drive.

What do you think?
I think your right.
I would like you to try Nod32
Before install this product you will need to remove Symantec Shared.

Download the trial version of Nod32

After updating You can then scan with NOD32 on-demand scanner.
Select network and local then select scan and clean.
Let me know if there is anything that it could not clean.

Nod32

Couple of points before I do that...

What is the process for removing Symantec Shared?

After reviewing the Kaspersky log, it appears that all the malware/viruses on the network are in Drive X:. This is a volume that consists of recovered data from a failed HD in my laptop. I just took ALL the data (entire contents of the failed C: drive) from the recovery and copied it onto the network drive...My Docs, Program Files, Windows; everything. From time to time I grab data files that I might need and bring them to my local laptop drive.

Does that change your strategy any?

GaryB

I'd like to see an Uninstall List again.

---------------------------------

Does Symantec let you scan all the drives on the network?
I have never used it nor will I ever install it. Not on my top five list. :lip:

Fresh Unistall List

Eagle;

I ran the NOD32 AV on the entire network (not my laptop yet) and it found no threats, but was not able to open all files. Here is the Unistall list after that scan. I will also post the NOD32 scan log and a link to the Kaspersky log for the laptop that discovered all the threats on the network drive.

Moving Forward

Eagle;

I've diasbled all the SyncToy pairs that I was echoing and plan to clean out that network drive of everything but data files (I had been echoing the entire C: drive for my desktop and saved the entire volume from my HD failure/recovery on my laptop). Once we've succeeded in cleaning everything harmful, I will purge that drive. Does that sound like a reasonable plan, or am I missing something?

Also, Here is a link to my Kaspersky and HJT logs for the laptop. The Kaspersky shows all the threats on the network drive.

Thanks so much for your help...it is appreciated!

I think that would be the best Idea.

Download Newest SunJava>>>> http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp
Once installed you can test to see that it is in fact installed >>>>
Sun Java Test

-------------------------------
Then click HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan as some find things others don't.

* You need to use IE to run this scan
* Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
* A new window will open...click the Check Now button
* Enter your Country
* Enter your State/Province
* Enter your e-mail address and click send
* Select either Home User or Company
* Click the big Scan Now button
* If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
* It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
* When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
* When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report

Where we are at this point...

Eagle;

I cleaned out all the "non-data" files in my network drives. As we move forward, I will be performing the activities you recommend on both my desktop and laptop. PLease indicate if this is not a good idea, or let me know if there are processes I should be performing on one rather than the other. In each case I will attempt to include all network drives.

Please see my previous post to review the HJT and Kaspersky performed from my laptop. I will include the HJT log from the laptop now that I have removed the earlier Java and both Spybot S&D installations in my next post.

I will also scan the laptop using NOD32 and Panda.

Thanks for your help.
