new computer with vista

just got a new computer and it is running windows vista. wanted to get spybot for it but dont know which is the best download. would also like to run a scan to see if any maleware etc. was on the computer
 
the reason why I ask is because when im on the internet a connect broadband connection box pops up asking for my username and password. I was reading a post about if you have aim it came with a viewpoint media player that i should delete. This thing started when I downloaded that and doesnt seem to stop even though I deleted the viepoint program. perhaps i have another malware program? please help
