Not sure if I have a problem or not...

Before diving in and posting this s a "malware removal request", I thought I'd post here to see if this is actually a problem that needs that level of help, or if it is just something stupid in settings or options somewhere I have missed.

On one particualr site, that used to be "clean", I keep getting login prompts that say "The server ad.yieldmanager.com at Delta UPS Web requires a username and password."

If I cancel, the page loads o.k. but as soon as I move to another page within the site, I get more login prompts.

Is there a way of blocking these, or do I have an infected PC that needs a "Malware removal" support request?

I stress that it is just one site that does this. Seems more to do with the site than my machine.

I have Win XP Pro SP3 latest updates, Spybot S&D 1.6.2.46 updates to 5/8/09. Also NIS 2009 with latest updates. Spybot scans don't throw up anything. Norton picks up an occasional tracking cookie and bins it, but not anything to do with ad.yieldmanager.

You have so many riules on this forum that I have probably broken at least one of them, for which I apologise, but if you could tell me where to start, I'd appreciate it.

Not malware after all. Problem solved. Belkin UPS

Well, thanks for all the helpful suggestions guys...

You'll no doubt be pleased to know that it isn't any sort of malware on my PC.

I traced the problem to a combination of network address changes on my home network and my trusty old Belkin UPS.

I'd left HTTP: access enabled on the UPS and the UPS HTTP: service was responding to some sort of server request from ad.yieldmanager code buried in the web pages of the site that was causing the login messages. I assume it's to do with Spybot redirecting requests to localhost via the the HOSTS file. I've disabled the HTTP: access on the UPS and the messages have gone. Re-enable it, and they come back.

As I don't need HTTP: access to the UPS, it can stay off, so problem solved.

thanx for the info!! got an exact info about what i want.. truly effective.

Hello Axolotl,

:bigthumb: it would have been guessing to know if malware was involved without seeing a log so glad all is well.

Best regards.
