Nope, it does not violate forum rules, our purpose is to clean computers and to help you keep them clean.

Most of the AV suites are very good, Norton, Trendmicro, McAfee, it all boils down to a personal preference.

Top 10 List
http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,130869/article.html

If you don't want to purchase one, here is a list of free ones and some free firewalls as well, there more than adequate.

Free Anti Virus Programs

Free Firewalls

Now to remove most of the tools that we have used in fixing your machine:
  • Make sure you have an Internet Connection.
  • Download OTC to your desktop and run it
  • A list of tool components used in the cleanup of malware will be downloaded.
  • If your Firewall or Real Time protection attempts to block OTC to reach the Internet, please allow the application to do so.
  • Click Yes to begin the cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the cleanup process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Keep in mind if you install some of these programs. Only ONE Anti Virus and only ONE Firewall is recommended, more is overkill and can cause you problems. You can install all the Spyware programs I have listed without any problems. If you install Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard, they will conflict with the TeaTimer in Spybot , you can still install Spybot Search and Destroy but do not enable the TeaTimer .

Here are some free programs to install, all free and highly regarded by the fine people in the Malware Removal Community
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.6
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis. If you install Spyware Blaster ( Recommended ) then do not enable the TeaTimer in Spybot Search and Destroy.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed. No scan to run, just update about once a week and enable all protection.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts, again, no scan to run, just install it and let it do its thing.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 6000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 3 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.

I used to use Kaspersky, but Panda came out with this offer to 3 licenses for about US$ 40 (in Brazil). So, I have been using Panda for 2 years now, but I'm giving up, only due to this incompatibility.

As for firewalls, I use the plain vanilla Windows Firewall, is it enough?

After I uninstalled Panda, no problems with blue screen anymore, thanks.

Well, windows Firewall blocks just incoming, the other firewalls block both incoming and outgoing, Zone Alarm would be my choice.

Some companies have not go on the band wagon for 64 bit , there are a lot of our tools we use to remove this garbage that won't work on 64 bit, but they are coming along slowly on it.

Shame you spent that money for Panda and it will not work, contact them and see if you can get a refund.

Take care,
Ken

One last (indiscrete) question: what do you use on your computer? As a specialist, your choice should be the best choice for me, too. Thanks again.

NIS (Norton Internet Security ) I also have the 3 computer deal. Norton is a love hate relationship, some people just want to get rid if it saying its bloatware , myself, been using it for years , have it on 3 computers and could not be happier with it.

Its important that whatever you install, just install one, more is overkill and will slow down your system.

As far as Antispyware, Malwarebytes ( paid version ) Spybot Search and Destroy ( TeaTimer disabled-Immunization feature enabled ) and Spyware Blaster.

This is really all I need.

Before you install anything, be sure to read the Requirements and make sure its 64 bit compatable

Since this issue appears to be resolved ... this Topic has been closed. Glad I could help.
