Program won't start

I have used spybot search & destroy successfully for more than a year. Recently, when I double click on the icon, the program will not start. It also won't start if I make it a scheduled task through windows xp. This is happening on 2 computers. I have uninstalled and reinstalled on both computers, and it works for a day or 2, and then it won't start again. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

In the past a variant of Coolwebsearch closed Spybot and some other anti-spyware programs when they started. If this is the problem, there is a removal tool that may help.

That article points to a page that contains a download for:

• CoolWWWSearch.SmartSearch (v1/v2) MiniRemoval

Download delcwssk.zip, extract (unzip it), and execute miniremoval_coolwebsearch_smartkiller.exe. Then see if you can get Spybot to run.
