Protection for Firefox

I notice that using Firefox with Spybot allows spyware through whereas it gets blocked when I use IE.

Are there settings or special updates to correct this?

No, but you can at least block tracking cookies in your browser. The following article explains how to block them:

I addition SpywareBlaster has an option for Mozilla/Firefox to "Prevent ad / tracking cookies". See Zenobia's comments in the last post in the following thread:
