qttask.exe - Removal with NIS2008

My NIS2008 detects qttask.exe (Quick Time) and say`s it`s a Low Risk so I removed it with NIS2008 and submitted it to Symantec , well all hell broke lose:sad: with my system . Then I went into my control panel and turned the thing all on again. Then rebooted . Well, now my system is working better than ever , the slugish slowness I had seems to have disappeared . NIS2008 is again detecting qttask.exe but the system is still alot faster and is working better than ever . I do not by any means think anyone else should do this process !! But heck it`s nothing that can`t be fixed right . I`am running Windows XP Home SP2

Hi there.

I find it ironic that Norton, itself long reported as a resource hog, is detecting a part of QuickTime, the process eater. ;)

When updating or installing QT, the easiest way to prevent it from getting a hold is not to allow the registry change for Quicktime to be added to startup. qttask.exe is a non-essential system process, and is only installed for ease of use.

If you have an active registry guard you should be warned when any program is trying to install a new startup and can allow or deny changes. One can still start QT manually.

Cheers.

Try running msconfig from a run dialog or the task manager
Just disable qttask from the startup tab;)(If you're running spybot you may have to whitelist it to stop the confirmation dialogs at startup).

Not so close. Exception is that TeaTimer is a part of Spybot-S&D.
Anyway, If you use Spybot-S&D in Advanced mode, you can go to: Tools > System Startup, and when you find qttask.exe, on left side there're checkboxes. Clear the checkbox in the line which contains that file.
About qttask.exe, it's not in my memory, but it's in System Startup (enabled).
