Root Kit/SBSD Registry Back Up

HI Newby Alert!!!
I'm running XP (allupdated-now) and am infected with root kit. My computer guy says "stick a fork in it", but before I do I'd like to know if the SBSD Registry Backup feature will replace the infected registry and if so where do I find the method in the help file. Re here or @

No Spybot-SD will not. You're misunderstanding. Spybot's registry backup does not fix or replace your registry, if you're under the impression that it'll put a clean registry in place of your "infected" one, it will not.

If you wish to get your machine cleared out, without proceeding to reformat or have the "PC guy" fix it for you, I'd suggest you take a look at the Malware Removal Forums and start a thread.
