scanning taking long time to complete

New member
on my laptop running XP home, I noticed that the scanning for problems is taking a very long time (over one hour). Is there any reason for this?
On other PC running on Win98SE OP it takes nuch less time to complete the full check up.
Thanks for the help.
I'm new to this forum. Hoping I'm in the right section of the forum.
