I have been trying to schdule a scan at 3 AM for almost a month, without success.I wonder if I am doing something wrong in the S&D settings or is something wrong in the Microsoft scheduler?

Running Windows XP?

With XP the user account that adds the schedule entry must have a password. This is because Spybot uses the OS scheduler and XP requires a password to schedule.
