search takes too much time?

Hi, I have Win2k with SP4. The disk I searched has 1 MB. My processor has 333 MHz, my RAM is 160 MB.

There were found 155384 objects to look for. After 10h it looked for 106167 objects. So it would take some more hours to finish. I stopped it. Is such a long time o.k.?

Please do the following:
Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:


  • Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
  • Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
  • Click the "Delete Cookies" button
  • Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
  • When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content",
    click OK


Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have
Firefox installed):


  • Go to Tools > Options.
  • Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
  • Click the Clear button located to the right of each option
    (History, Cookies, Cache).
  • Click OK to close the Options window
  • Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing
    by clicking Clear All.
  • A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the
    information.


Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin


  • Go to start > run and type: *cleanmgr* and click ok.
  • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
  • Press OK to remove them.

Hardi, so you disk capacity has a capacity of X, for example, and you have only 1MB of space left on the disc?

In addition to spybotsandra's suggestions, have you defragmented your drive lately?

Thanks both of you for the advice. I will run, after cleaning all cache, Spybot tonight again. Let`s see!:)

My HDD has two partitions and D: has the operating system (Win2k, SP4) and only 1 MB total with 150 MB free. Defragmenting this disk with Windows tool is not working well, because only about 150 MB are left free and it tells me I should free up some space which I can not do!

Defragmentation takes a long time and it achieves not much! Maybe there is a programm for defragmentation which is faster and does not need so much free space?:laugh:

Hi, I do have a HDD with 3 GB, partitioned in C: and D:. The size of C: is 2 GB, of D: 1 GB. On D: is Win2k SP4, on C: all programms.
THe free space on D: is about 150 MB.
 
Well what does the "Analysis" of the defragment window say? Is there some "red" bars?

One tool I personally use it Auslogics Disk Defrag. In the end results, it tells you the percent of fragmentation, performance gain (%), and how many files were fragmented.

However, what I disliked was the nag... "text" that said about purchasing one of their products. Trust, Auslogics defrags like it was nothing. It's much faster.

Windows 2000= Around a decade old :laugh:.
Auslogics: Modern.

Point is that, I'm not attempted to advertise this tool. Just a suggestion. Its up to Hardi whether to follow it. Thanks.
