Security warning

I'm having trouble trying to get rid of this virus I have. I've tred almost everything and nothing seems to work. I have a red circle with an exclaimation mark in my system tray that says "Security warning: your computer may be infected with harmful or unwanted software!" How would I get rid of this?

Be careful of what you download, and where you download it from. Many programs come bundled with extra software.You may be installing more than you think. Learn more about the program, Does it come bundled with other "3rd party" programs? If you search hard enough you can always find a "clean" alternative to any software. Stay away from warez,porn and crack sites. Becarful what you download from file sharing networks. If you are not sure, scan it with your Antivirus app. DO YOU TRUST THE SOURCE? Check this database:Spyware Guide or this: Library before installing free/shareware.

Make sure you keep your Windows OS/Browser current by visiting Windows update
occasionaly to download and install any critical updates and service packs. These will patch flaws/bugs that can be exploited.

Adjust your browser settings: Change your(active x) settings in IE. With IE open go to tools, internet options, security tab. Click on the internet globe, then custom level. Set the first option "download signed active x controls" to prompt, the next two to disable. Read more:

Many exploits are directed at Internet Explorer, you dont have to use it. Try a different browser. You can have and use more than one browser on your computer.

Outlook Express with the default settings is not secure. It will run scripts, download images etc, just like a browser, but this was the old Outlook Express. Service Pack 2 has made huge improvements to Outlook, but just like with Internet Explorer, you dont have to use it.

this: digstream.exe, part of Digstream checks for new video. not really sure why avg is flagging it. you should go to there website and read there privacy policy.

the system volume is your system restore points. sometimes stuff can get archived in there so if you did a system restore you could put the malware back in place, but in your case it looks like just a .dll, they are harmless without a .exe to go with them. just to be sure we can make new clean restore points. you do it like this:( a account that has admin. rights)

1. Turn off System Restore. (deletes old possibly infected restore point)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.(new restore points on a clean system)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK, then reboot
