Please Help...
A couple of days ago I clicked an Active X download and now Spybot has detected Smitfraud-C., Smitfraud-C.MSVPS and DeepDive in my system. I have repeatedly removed them using Spybot, but they keep coming back. My system is XP. I would appreciate any help in getting these off my system. What steps should I take? I am running Spybot now and am in safe networking mode.

thanks!

Here is the hijackthis report for my system...

Hello GAClay

Welcome to Safer Networking.

Please read Before You Post

Download and install Trendmicros Hijackthis

Download the Trendmicro Hijackthis Installer, follow defauts and it will install in C:\Program Files\Trendmicro\Hijackthis and this is exactly where we want it to be.

  • Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
  • Go to Format and make sure Wordwrap is Unchecked
  • Go to Edit> Select All.....Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread by using the Post Reply and not start a New Thread.
DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

Folder.png

______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter

Fix01b.jpg

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Please post:
C:\rapport.txt and a Hijackthis log please

GAClay,

We most have posted at the same time ;) Follow my instructions for downloading and installing HJT, it needs to be in its own folder for backup purposes. You can delete the current copy and redownload it, it also needs to be run in normal windows, not safemode or it wont show everything on your log.

Back in Safe Mode Networking

Eric, thank you so much for assisting me. I am back in safe mode because I was unable to get to Spybot in normal mode. The last log from hijackthis was done in normal mode. So, is next step:
Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Please post:
C:\rapport.txt and a Hijackthis log please

Eric, I have been called worst things in my life

You definetly are infected with Smitfraud so lets bypass option 1. This is what I need you to do. Take your time, its been a looooooooong day, I will be back online in the AM.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Download SmitfraudFix
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Download and install the 30 day trial of AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 to your desktop.

  • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run Ewido and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
  • Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine <-- Dont forget this
  • Under Reports
  • Select Automatically generate report after every scan
  • Un-Select Only if threats were found
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 <-- Do not run the scan yet.

Boot your computer into Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut Off your Computer> Restart

Thanks so much Fred...I mean Ken...

Thank you so much for your assistance. I will save the instructions to a notepad file as you suggested. I will be online in safe mode tomorrow morning...take care and get a good night's sleep.

Next step?

Hello. I am going to go ahead and start the steps you gave me regarding running AVG Spyware which I downloaded to my desktop last night. I'm in Safe Mode Networking now.

No need to keep posting back letting me know what your doing, just follow the instructions that I gave you for running Smitfraud and AVG and then post the logs for both programs and a New HJT log.

Why do you keep going to Safemode, are you unable to access the internet in normal windows?????

Both Smitfraud and AVG need to be run in Safemode, but everything else is done in Normal windows.

Ken :)

Logging Into Safe Mode

In Normal Mode, it seems that Macafee keeps finding trojins and logging me out of explorer.

I'll run AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 now in safe mode as instructed and let you know the findings.

Follow the steps.
1. Smitfraud fix Option 2
2. Do the cleaning.
3. AVG Anti Spyware scan
4. Smitfraud fix Option 3

Post these first.
1. Smitfraud report
2. AVG report
3. New HJT log in normal windows

Smitfraud Fix error

Ken, when I run Smitfraud Fix, I get the following NT message:

Fichier Process.exe absent
Process.exe file missing
Unzip all the archive in a folder

You got a bad download or you did not unzip it correctly, go back to my post for Option 1 and look at all the files you should have on your desktop. Delete it all and start over again with a fresh download.

Smitfraud Report and AVG Scan

I ran Smitfraud Fix Report option 2 and then AVG Scan following your directions. The Smitfraud report is listed below, but the AVG Scan did not generate a report even though I requested it do so as instructed; Quarantine settings: Automatically generate a report after every scan. The AVG Scan found 19 objects with 30 traces, I applied all actions, but the report didn't generate. I'm not sure why the report didn't generate from AVG Scan...Before I reboot and run SmitfraudFix option 3, I would like to know if there is a way to locate a report for the AVG Scan that took almost 2 hours to run.
