Fixed: smss.exe false positive ?

Hi,

Just got a warning message about "smss.exe" being reported as adwarealert.
Don't know if it's a SDHelper popup or Teatimer warning - but see attached screenshot.

I've searched my system for "smss.exe" but it's only found in

C:\WINDOWS\system32
C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386

- which as far as I understand from googling it should be ok (?)

The pop up wants to delete it - what should I do ?

Kind regards
Lars

Additional sys-info

Sorry forgot sys-info:

Microsoft XP v. 5.1.2600 SP3 build 2600, fully updated
Firefox v. 3.5.4
IExplorer v. 8.0.6001.18702
Spybot 1.6.2, updated november 5 2009

:) Lars

Further info

Scanned whole machine with Spybot + Avg & Spysweeper (full versions) and found nothing - so looks like false positive to me...

Another piece of (maybe related?) info:
A couple of days ago, Spybot started autoscanning upon windows startup, even though I have this turned off in settings...

hello,

this appears to be a false positive with the Resident TeaTimer.

try restarting TeaTimer:

* start Spybot S&D
* switch to advanced mode
* navigate to "Tools" , then "Resident"
* uncheck the check box for Resident TeaTimer to close TeaTimer
* wait a bit so TeaTimer can unload completely, for instance wait 1min
* check the check box for Resident TeaTimer again to restart the TeaTimer

Hi Yodama,

Actually I told it to 'ask me again', and haven't heard from it since.
Thanks for re-assuring me.

Best regards
/Lars
