software or hardware problem

Hello, I am having an extremely frustrating problem with my computer but I really do not know if it is hardware or software related. My computer randomly and unexpectedly likes to restart itself, multiple times. At first I thought it was random and possible caused from overheating. But that is not the case. My computer is hovering around 50C most of the time. Also these restarts never happen when I'm playing a game (mostly BF2142) and that is the period when my computer would be under the most heavy stress.

Lately I've been noticing that the restarts happen whenever I am in Mozilla Firefox for too long. I used the ATF Cleaner and cleaned everything but without luck. I have also run ad-aware and spybot S&D several times and have removed everything. It's also kinda silly, but I've noticed that these restarts happen a lot more when I am logged into Facebook, of all places.

The other weird thing is that when one of these restarts occur, my computer will restart itself 4 or 5 more times when it's booting up. Sometimes before Windows loads, sometimes when I'm choosing user, and sometimes when user has just finished loading. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Alex

Firstly, thanks for the help. Secondly, it took about an hour to write this reply cause the computer deemed it important to restart after every god-forsaken word. I'm out of ideas. It's not any of the suggestions you gave unfortunately. The system tools thing was already unchecked, the temperature of the computer hardly ever reaches above 40C and everything is plugged in securely. I don't know anymore, maybe it's time for a new computer.

Nasty!I had problems with my computer rebooting a few years back,I know how frustrating that is.Mine was memory problems.

I see from your other thread on here you've had a rebooting problem for awhile now.Has it gotten worse as time went on?

When you run ad-aware and spybot, are they finding anything major,or does it just seem to be little things like cookies?

If you boot into safe mode(without networking),does the computer still reboot?

When the computer randomly reboots, you do not get a blue screen popping up?Are there no,or hardly any red x's there when you look in event viewer?

Have you ever replaced the power supply?

I don't want to overwhelm you, since you are having such rebooting problems. But this page seems to go a bit further into troubleshooting,so:

And this is not to say that this is necessarily the problem, but if you get down to the part about the power supply in the page above, you also might want to have a look here:

Hey, when I booted into safe mode without networking it didn't restart, but then again I didn't have a whole lot to do lol. The computer rarely restarts when I'm not using it. I've checked everything else non-hardware related and it all appears to be in working order. I think it's time to replace some parts.

To further support the it's not over heating problem I ran a stress test with the ATI tool. The GPU temperature peaked at 87c without crashing. My case tells me that the temp of the chip is around 50c and MM5 says CPU is at 45c and case is at 43c. When I boot up and enter BIOS the temperatures are generally around the 35c mark.

Generally speaking the GPU temp is around 46c and the temperature of the temp chip is around 42c.

Hello square 1

I left it running about 45-50min but I didn't expect it to restart. The computer rarely restarts when it's not in use. Like if theres something downloading or itunes/movie is playing then it will restart. It still never restarts when I'm playing games though lol. Now i run WoW, minimize it, and write my papers and such lol.

Hard to say what exactly might be causing your reboot problem.Computers are almost as bad as cars for that,so many things it could be,too many things to check.
This seems like a good forum for troubleshooting, maybe someone there might have some ideas:

Or,you could also take your computer in for repairs. That might be cheaper than buying a new computer. You've certainly tried a lot to fix it.
