Yes that is true but those are not active.

Empty this folder:

C:\Qoobox\Quarantine

Empty Recycle Bin.

Another one is in system restore which will get flushed during final instructions.

Still problems?

I originally noticed the problem when I couldn't get to facebook.com

I then did the spybot scan and it wouldn't open even thought the TSR was by the clock. I couldn't get to the safer-networking website by DNS. I could by using the IP address.

Since we have started, I am now able to get to the safer-networking site by using the web address. But I am still having problems getting to facebook. The first facebook login page comes up using the IP address but not the web address although it takes a LONG time. I then click on Login and it never does anything. A little network activity but nothing else.

Im not sure if it is latency issues with satellite internet, but if that was the case I would have similar problems with other sites. Myspace works great as well as other gold mining sites I go to.

I cleaned out the quarantine directory.

Things are VERY intermittent. I was able to ping www.google.com and sometimes www.facebook.com. Now I can't ping either web address. Nor can I ping facebook using the IP address.

Now my whole network was not responding, I was unable to ping anything. I then turned off the satellite modem and the linksys router. Restarted computer and everything seems GREAT EXCEPT that I still can not log into facebook. I CAN ping www.facebook.com and get average round trip time of 673 ms which seems to be normal on this satellite connection.

I have not tried to run Spybot as you have not asked me to.

Then I suggest that you reset both router and modem next and let me know if that helped.

If you read the end of the last post I did reset everything and it worked Great other than being able to login to facebook.com.

I still have not tried running spybot.

I see.

Please try if you can access facebook via proxy, for example via myproxy.ca.

I think I understand what a proxy server is. But not sure how to access a site Via a proxy as you are asking.

Do you have a few quick steps, and/or a website with a quick overview. I have gone to school for cisco networking but never setup or handled proxies just to give you a quick background. I am in school for Geology now. I haven't tinkered much with computers in over three years.

Ok, I went to myproxy.ca and now I will tinker and trouble shoot a little bit more. I won't do anything radical.

Do you want me to run any other scans or run spybot?

How should I get that virus removed from systemrestore if Avast didn't remove it? I think it saw it though and tried to remove it when I first ran Avast.

Thank you very much for all your help!!!!

myproxy.ca will not allow me to login to a secure server.

I am now able to ping www.facebook.com and get to the login page. But NOTHING happens when I click on login (after entering my username and password).

MY COMPUTER
I am NOT able to login to facebook with google chrome or IE7.
I AM able to login to other sites such as my school site.

OTHER COMPUTER ON SAME NETWORK (same satellite connection)
I AM able to login to facebook and browse my facebook profile just fine.

"How should I get that virus removed from systemrestore if Avast didn't remove it? I think it saw it though and tried to remove it when I first ran Avast."

We will handle it a bit later :)

"I am now able to ping www.facebook.com and get to the login page. But NOTHING happens when I click on login (after entering my username and password)."

Yes but as you are now able to access site itself I means that problem is either in your or ISP end. Have you allowed javascript and cookies for that site?

java script is enabled in google chrome by default.

Did you see the fact that I can go to my Dad's computer and use facebook just FINE. My Dad's computer is hooked up to the same router as my computer.

OK, so it was Chrome related issue :)

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

  • Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

    Secunia Software Inspector
    F-secure Health Check
  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
  • Install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware - Malwarebytes''Anti-Malware is a new and powerful anti-malware tool. It is
totally free but for real-time protection you will have to pay a small one-time fee. Tutorial on installing & using this product can be found below:

    Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Scanning Guide

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Here are some additional utilities that will enhance your safety

Stand Up and Be Counted ---> Malware Complaints <--- where you can make difference!

The site offers people who have been (or are) victims of malware the opportunity to document their story and, in that way, launch a complaint against the malware and the makers of the malware.

Also, please read this great article by Tony Klein So How Did I Get Infected In First Place

Happy surfing and stay clean! :bigthumb:

What about Spy Bot? Should I use Spybot AND Malwarbytes AntiMalware?

Doesn't Spybot have real time protection?

Thank you for all your help.

You can use both.

Spybot has TeaTimer which is free realtime protection but Malwarebytes is free as only a scanner as said in my instructions :)

PLEASE NOTE:
This was NOT chrome specific. I couldn't get to facebook on IE as well. I had to clean out everything... i.e. cache, history, and all that.

Now facebook works on both browsers. (it didn't work on either before)

I have done everything thing you said.

I have installed now:
Spybot
Malwarebytes Anti-malware
Spyblaster
Avast antivirus
Zonealarm firewall
