While installing Norton Internet Security 2007 (of Symantec) I got message telling me that Spybot is interrupting. So I uninstalled Spybot, finished installing the NIS and then reinstalled Spybot.
I don't understand - why would Spybot "bother" NIS?
There never was any real incompatibility between Norton and Spybot. People installing Norton were answering messages from TeaTimer incorrectly so that Norton was not being installed properly. Symantec decided to indicate in their installation process to say the two products were incompatible to eliminate the problem.
Many people have apparently successfully installed Norton without uninstalling Spybot. Other people, like you, have uninstalled Spybot, installed Norton and then reinstalled Spybot.
According to the following Symantec support article (based on the installation of Norton Internet Security 2007) you can not only install Norton Internet Security 2007 with Spybot installed as long as you answer the TeaTimer registry change pop-up correctly, but you can also reinstall Spybot after the installation of Norton (Internet Security 2007):
