I have had gradually deteriorating performance on my Windows XP Professional machine (Mozilla) and purchased S&D to clean it up. Other virus ware was removed previously. Scan detected 1700 problems and I accepted their removal. Everything worked well until startup the next day. The machine would not load until I realized it was just loading verrry slowly. Eventually I uninstalled S&D and it would run a little. Tonight I booted and after about three hours, I had my email up and connected. Now I do get an error message about Windows Desktop missing files but I am not sure of the next step. Should I reinstall S&D and try to restore the machine to prescan conditions? Is that even possible? Now the printer is not being recognized and I am leery of shutting the machine down again. Suggestions/help would be appreciated. This purchase has really backfired on me. What do you mean by "Purchased"? Spybot: Search and Destroy is free for personal use, only the corporate version isn't free.
What version of spybot were you using, the latest is 1.5.2.20 (1.6 is released on July 4th) and where did you download it from?
It sounds like you may have been duped into buying a fake version Spybot.

I just find it ridiculous to detect more than 1,000 entries. Of course those are false positives. Problem is that removing one of those (such as a registry key) can result in great trouble. And bad news.

Consider posting in the Malware Removal forum and having someone take a look at your system.
If you decide to have an experienced malware removal specialist assist you, please follow the procedure in this link to run scans and produce a HijackThis log:--
