Spybot scanning extremely slow

I did my normal weekly spybot scan and after about 4 hours it is still not finished. This normally is completed in 2 hours at the max. Should I post in the malware section?

There should be no reason to post in the Malware Forums unless you have a infection.

What is your Operating System?
What version is Spybot-Search&Destroy (Help>About)?

Have you cleared the cache, temp. files, and cookies from your browsers? How about the temp. files from your system?

As you suggestion, you can run ATF Cleaner by Atribune:

It is a small file (50KB). Run it > Select All > Empty Selected. This is for the first tab only.
 
I am running XP and the Spybot version is 1.5.2.20. I will do the suggestions you made and post back how long it takes.

FYI, Spybot-Search&Destroy 1.6.0.30 (latest) is released. You should download it.

One significant improvement is that scanning times are greatly reduced. At times it will take 10-15 minutes to complete the scan.
 
When I download a newer version should I go to Add Remove Programs and remove the present version or download the newer version without removing the older version?
