Spybot unable to update

I recently had a bad outbreak that I was able to clear up but I still cannot update spybot. I was running 2.2, tried to update, would sit on "checking for antispyware updates" and would not move for hours. I tried the manual update, no change. Uninstalled and reinstalled 2.4 no change. I can scan just fine, but my definitions are 51 days old, and a scan reveals nothing. I have tried other programs to see if they have the same unable to update problem, but they work just fine. I figure I still have some infection that is not allowing spybot to update but no other scanner can pick it up. Any ideas on how I can force an update if the manual link doesn't work?

Could you open Spybot start center,click Update,then click Show Update log.Scroll down to the end of the logfile,then highlight from there up to about a month or so ago,then rightclick,Copy,then paste it here?
