I think I've completed what you asked. I made sure my Ad-Aware is updated. I uninstalled all that you suggested. I still have no reply from Microsoft. I will continue to check on that. I defragged and did a check disk. After all of this I rebooted.

A few questions, do I need to "reactivate" the programs that we unguarded previously? Also do I keep all the scan programs we used... like ATF clearner, Smitraudfix, AVG Antispyware, and HJT?

Thanks for the feedback, let's look at those programs.

ATF-Cleaner is a excellant tool that does not run and uses no resources unless you use it. Here is a tutorial for using it:

Make sure Spyware Doctor is running, leave AVG guard turned off and you can turn on Windows Defender. Hope it does not conflict with SD, until you hear from Microsoft, which normally takes from 24 to 48 hours.

Delete Smitfraudfix, need to be download fresh because of updates if needed.

HJT is probably the best free tool you will ever be given, here is a tutorial for using it, keep in mind, unless you start it, it uses no resources, just a bit of HD space:

How is your computer running? Your HJT log looks good. You can use HJT to remove this item:

Let's clean out the System Restore files like this:
1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Windows will set a new restore point for you.

For your information, AVG will let you keep the scanner and free updates. I suggest you turn the program off completely (should not show in the HJT log) and update and run it when you feel the need for a good scan. There are no benefits once the trial is over and I believe you have enough stuff running with Windows Defender and Spyware Doctor.

I've completed the last steps you suggested: my Spyware Doctor is running (and with all updates and the latest version...I checked), AVG is off and does not show up on my HJT, Windows Defender is on, Smitfraudfix is deleted, I removed the AOL toolbar line with the HJT, and cleaned out the system restore files. When I hear from Microsoft about SD and Windows Defender, I will let you know.

I'm including one last HJT scan for you to review if you don't mind. I can't thank you enough. Your patience and perseverence on this was very admirable. This whole issue has been an eye-opener for me. Thank you very much again. A donation will definately be made. Have a Happy Holiday Season.
