unable to download signature files & update antivirus

I'm learning spybot & ungraded to prof. version but can not run a scan. Windows 7 When I start the scanner to update I just get an error that the files can not be updated. I attempted downloading the file to a USB and that also failed. What should I do to proceed? Do I need to make a bootCD? or is there some other way to get the scanner to run?

Can not get the download to work either; so I can not download the files or the files for the WAIK

Try checking to see if Spybot proxy is being used.If it is,then disable it,and see if you're able to update after that.There are instructions to disable it here.

still can't

I've done everything recommended...

- asked it to use IE settings
- unchecked both boxes
- used the tip at the top of the Internet Protection tab (localhost 127.0.0.1 and the specified port)

still not able to get the signature file or updates
