Update freezes & won't complete

My PC had crashed and another was purchased. After encountering a problem in the Win 10 update from
Win 7, I downloaded SpyBot S&D. After installation I chose to Update the new installation. It started to
update the files, then froze. It has now been scanning for the past four hours and goes no further with
any update files. It is now stopped after only three files. It is version 2.4

What can be done?
