Updates Prevented by Malware

I have finally got SpyBot to run after renaming the exe file to a random name.

However, I cannot run to check for problems as the Malware is preventing spybot from going to the spybot site to get updates.

When I click 'Check for problems' SpyBot says "ERROR You need to install the detection updates first by using the integrated update or the manual updater" I can't obviously

This malware also redirects my browser to 'can't find server' for any spyware removal sites. My normal browsing gets redirected to Viagra / Casino sites etc

How can I get SpyBot to update and run to check for problems and get rid of this damn thing ?

HEEEEEEELP !!

:thanks:

PS I searched the forum but couldn't find an answer.

Still Blocking

Hi Sandra,

Thanks for the quick response I'm impressed :D:

That worked, SpyBot now runs...... BUT

It hasn't got rid of the MalWare. My browsers are choked up and slow and I'm still getting redirected to dating / gambling sites.

It is also blocking access to this forum and your main site.

SpyBot also fails to update and displays "Error retrieving update info file"

What should I do next

Thanks

Eric

Hello,

1. The error message \"Error retrieving update info file\" usually appears when Spybot-S&D has accidently imported bad Internet Explorer proxy settings. In this case, it helps just to disable the proxy option in Spybot-S&D:
Open the Settings section and go to the Settings page. Locate the Use proxy entry in the Automation - Web update category, and disable it.
If you cannot see the Settings section, start Spybot-S&D in advanced mode (see your Start menu group for Spybot-S&D).

This information is also available in our How-To section (including a screenshot):
http://www.spybot.info/en/howto/proxy.html

2. Please check your firewall. Most people who do not have problem #1 do have Spybot-S&D accidentally blocked in their firewall.

3. If nothing else works, you can still use the manual updater, which is available on the website: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html - the Detection Update.
(Notice: if the Info page does not show the correct update date after installing the updates with the manual updater, please ignore that - this will be fixed with the next release)
