Using Spy Bot Home Scan closes my lap top before it completes a scan

The title says it all really. I used the free version no problem but upgraded to Home and now on two occasions the scan results in my laptop closing down before it completes the scan. Any thoughts?

This is from a long time ago,but a few years back,some desktops and laptops were shutting down due to overheating.
