Virtumonde assistance required

I'm currently running Windows Vista (Home Premium) edition and I'm having a problem whereby multiple windows are being launched involuntarily by my internet explorer. As per the instructions provided in previous posts, I have performed the following actions

1) Ran the online antivirus scanner (but couldn't save the log file as the machine froze up on me). I was able to take print screens of the results displayed in the dialog window so please let me know how should I provide these.

2) Started the machine in safe mode and ran Spybot. Remove all instances of Virtumonde detected... until no more could be found.

3) Restarted the machine and ran a HiThis scan; below is the output file:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
Please post contents of that file in your next reply.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.

Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt to your post.

I upgraded the database to v858 but every time I tried to run it, my machine will eventually restart itself (after displaying the infamous Windows blue screen). Later I ran the software in safe mode and was able to remove the infected objects. See log below:

I must also add that after running Malwarebytes and restarting the machine in normal mode, I started receiving warnings from Spybot regarding an important registry entry that changed. I kept on denying the change instead of accepting it. Your help is appreciated.

Hi Shaba,
I cannot locate the file you've indicated (C:\Users\All Users\ezsidmv.dat). Also, I don't have an "All Users" folder. The only file with that extension is under Users\Public\NTUser.dat
Is this because I'm running Vista? Many thanks

That file is hidden so that is normal that you can't find it with default settings.

If you copy/paste C:\Users\All Users\ezsidmv.dat into the white Upload a file box
and click submit/send, what happens?

Hi,
I've setup my folders to display hidden files and still don't see it (nor does the path appear to exist). Also, I thought I was supposed to keep that machine disconnected from the internet. Doing what you suggest implies I need to connect it? What will this website do upon uploading the file? Do you think it is easier just to reimage the entire machine?

Thanks for that, it looks like to be related to Skype actually.

We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:

1. Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
2. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
3. On the left hand side, Click on Tools
4. Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
5. Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
6. Restart your computer.

Open HijackThis, click do a system scan only and checkmark these:

Hi

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
Now click on Scan Settings
In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:

o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

+ Extended (If available otherwise Standard)

o Scan Options:

+ Scan Archives
+ Scan Mail Bases
Click OK
Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
Please do not use your computer while the scan is running. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
Click the Save Report As... button (see red arrow below)
In the Save as... prompt, select Desktop
In the File name box, name the file KasScan-ddmmyy (or similar)
In the Save as type prompt, select Text file (see below)
Now click on the Save as Text button
Savethe file to your desktop.
Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Note: This scanner will work with Internet Explorer Only! Keep ALL other programs closed during the scan

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.
