Virtumonde detected but persists

I acquired a malware infection that threw up bogus security and antivirus windows.

I ran Spybot and AVG Free 9.0 in both normal and safe modes (Windows XP). Both detected several things. This stopped the problem of the popups and bogus antivirus warnings.

However, Google search results no longer link through when I click on them. Instead they try to direct to googleads.

Spybot continues to detect Virtumonde.dll but after repeated attempts to remove it, it is still there.

I welcome any suggestions or guidance on how to eliminate virtumonde
