Windows Automatic Updater Malfunction

Every time I boot up, I receive a Windows Security Alert stating that Automatic Updates is not on. I can't turn it on on that screen and running through the fix on the microsoft website using run/services.msc doesn't allow me to enable it. Also, I get pop-ups periodically when I run Internet Explorer.

Thanks for returning your information, please do this next:

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Start > Control Panel > Add Remove programs and uninstall VAV if there. Might have a different name ([Antivirus] C:\Program Files\VAV\vav.exe)

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Right click Start > Explore and navigate to these files/folders and delete them if there.

5) C:\Program Files\VAV <<< delete that folder and contents

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and post a new HJT log and tell me how the computer is running. Watch the computer for any symptoms, Vundo (which you also had) can be tough to remove) It looks like MBAM removed it but we want to be sure before we move on.

Right now my computer is running well. I don't see any symptoms that were causing problems in the past. I was able to turn on Automatic Updates and get updates for my computer. I had a brief situation where I was unable to log onto my computer because it said the domain was no longer valid. I restarted in the last known working settings option and it put me in what seemed to be setting after taking the corrective actions you posted the first time. Since that one instance, I have not had that problem going forward.

I am not seeing Trend Micro in Running processes in the last HJT log, though it was visible in the others? Do you have it off for some reason? Please make sure all is running as it should with Trend Micro, update the program and run a system scan with it. If you have any issues (malware will often mess up your security programs), then contact Trend Micro technical support for instructions.
Windows should be telling you about any issues, check your Security Center to make sure your AV, firewall and autoupdates are all green for go.
