Hi,
I have major problems. It all started after I bought a new mobile phone (for £30! Great value lol)...The phone came with the 'vodafone assistant'. I installed it and everything was working fine. But after a couple of hours suddenly the computer went all slow, for no reason.
I couldn't open windows task manager, or anything else. So I rebooted the pc.
Ahhhhhh!!!!!
Windows boots up, I can see loading bar, but then instead of the welcome screen, a black screen greets me. There is no ui - no mouse cursor - no nothing.
On reboot again...I get the 'sorry for the inconvenience' screen, giving me the option to boot into: safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command promt, use last good configuration and boot into windows normally.
-I tried using 'use last good configuration' - but I just got the black screen again.
-I tried using 'boot into windows normally' - but I just got the black screen again.
-I tried using 'safe mode with networking' - but it only half loaded (leading me to have to restart the computer).
-Safe mode with command promt works.
-Safe mode works.
I have tried using system restore to a previous date - but still got the black screen when loading up windows.
I have no access to the internet, so no kaspersky (I am using a friends computer). I will post logs by transfering the logs on a memory stick and then to here.
I am in the process of backing up all my data. One problem, the cd-writer drive is broken...
I am compressing all the data, then I am going to have to buy an external hard drive (it is the only way to transfer my data to a safe place - that I can think of!)...
Anyway, I do not suspect anything malicous. But I would like to get to the bottom of this - and prefebly come out of this with a working computer.
If you do need logs - I would be happy to post them. And also if you need any more infomation, just ask a question.
Any advice about this strange occurance?
honda
p.s.no more firefox... :FF:
anyway - luckily the computer is quite old and I was already thinking about getting a new one!
