I have read many threads here and follow advice on a number of them, but nothing has helped correct my problem of an extremely slow computer since my download and install of v.1.5.2.20 two days ago. All applications, especially Outlook Express, are running very slow - all I do is watch the hourglass flip over. This was not the problem with the previous version of SS&D. Ironically, Thunderbird seems to be running better than anything. Running two applications at once means neither one will get anything done. I've cleaned my computer and shut down anything unnecessary, but this has not helped. Unfortunately, now I must read up on the proper uninstall procedures and look for some new spy management software. Its sad to see this happen to SD&D, they had a good thing going!
Do you have Teatimer enabled? If so,you could try disabling Teatimer and see if the slowness problem might be improved.
You could do that by opening Spybot, clicking mode, then advanced mode,Tools,Resident, then unticking Resident "Teatimer".
If you do decide to uninstall, there are some uninstall instructions here:
http://www.spybot.info/en/howto/uninstall.html
These are some additional Uninstall instructions, which I've quoted loosely from md usa spybot fan, using this thread:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=24304
Go into Spybot > Immunize.
Click "Undo" button (at the top of the right pane).
Go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced Mode > Tools > Resident.
Uncheck (if checked) the following:
Resident "SDHelper" (Internet Explorer bad download blocker) active.
Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of over-all system settings) active.
Go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced Mode > Tools > IE Tweaks.
Uncheck (if checked) any of the following "Miscellaneous locks":
Lock Hosts file read-only as protection against hijackers.
Lock IE start page setting against user changes (current user).
Lock IE control panel against opening from within IE (current user).
There are some antispyware scanners listed as trustworthy here:
