When I run my defragmenter it says I need to defragment. :police:

When I defragment it shows that the following file cannot be removed: \RECYCLER\NPROTECT\00000001.bin

Is my computer infected? How can I remove this file? :fear:

It is taking up a lot of space on my computer. :red:

thank you

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.

All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

I can't tell if you are infected or not but that is your Norton Protected Recycle Bin

If that does not work, contact Norton/Symantec technical support for instructions:

I am afraid I did not articulate my question well.

Please allow me to try again.

When I go to:

1. All Programs
2. Accessories
3. System Tools
4. Disc Defragmenter
5. When I run "Analyze" on the Disc Defragmenter a message comes up telling me that I should "Defragment this Volume." The Defragment Analysis shows by free space is lower than it should be.
6. When I run the "Analyzer" a message pops up telling me that many of the files could not be defragmented and that I can "view the report."
7. When I "view the report" the report says that the following file could not be defragmented: \RECYCLER\NPROTECT\00000001.bin. The report shows this consists of 17 fragments taking up 7.25 gb of space.

What should I do?

Thank you for your assistance

Devin

Devin, it appears (and I DO NOT use Symantec/Norton) that the NProtect recycler:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=NProtect+recycler&btnG=Google+Search
has accumulated a good deal of junk. I know of no way to clean the junk other than the information I posted for you. This is why I tried to save you a step and referred you to Symantec/Norton technical support for answers to technical questions dealing with their product.
Since this is not a malware issue, and you are in a malware forum, I could point at windows forums but they would have the same issue, trying to deal with a Symantec/Norton problem. You need to delete that 7.25 gb of junk.

Hope that helps
