• Welcome Guest, to the Spybot Forums! It's 2025, and we just upgraded our forum software.

Today is Safer Internet Day, and with our new forum, you can finally use passkeys to login. That was about time!

Of course, you could ask if a forum is still useful, with so many social media networks out there where you might already have an account, and met a lot of users. You can now use your login from some of those networks to log in here. And by posting here, your question and data is stored on our servers and not automatically shared with a whole social media network.

We'll also start using the forum for small bits of information, announcements and more again.

Immunization

Immunization/Firefox&Chrome

Thanks for the info. However, when I attempt immunization, Firefox 3 (my default) remains unprotected. I am using Spybot 1.6.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hello,

Which items are not immunized exactly?
Did you closed the browser while immunizing?
Did you try to undo the immunization and then immunize again?
Have you also used the "Check again" function from the menu bar above?
Are you logged in as admin or as user with admin rights?
Do you have other user accounts on your pc?
Do you have other security programs installed that might block the immunization?

Best regards
Sandra

Did you closed the browser while immunizing? Yes
Did you try to undo the immunization and then immunize again?Yes
Have you also used the "Check again" function from the menu bar above? Yes
Are you logged in as admin or as user with admin rights? Yes
Do you have other user accounts on your pc? No
Do you have other security programs installed that might block the immunization? I have SpyBot, SuperAntiSpyware, Malawarebytes and McAffee. IE (which I do not use, but came installed from Dell) does immunize for the most part.

Thanks for the input!

This would have been easier if you had said what operating system you were using and also whether you did a clean install of Firefox 3 or simply updated from Firefox 2 without completely uninstalling Firefox 2 first.

The following applies to XP - If you are using something else you will have to transpose.

Make sure your browsers are closed, and you have closed Spybot. Don't restart Spybot until the following has been completed.

Goto C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\oddchars.default

the oddchars.default will be something along the lines of 4bgu8a9y.default

Look for a file called permissions.sqlite. If it's there delete it.
Look for a file called hostperm.1 If it is there delete it.
Start Firefox 3
Goto Tools/options
Click on the Privacy tab
In the Cookies area, Click on Exceptions
Enter the address of a web site you trust,
for example www.safer-networking.org, then click on Allow.
Close that screen, then click Ok to exit the options screen.
Exit Firefox 3.

That should have created a new permissions.sqlite file and also by adding the exception, primed it.

Now restart Spybot, undo your immunisations then re immunise. That should fix your problem.
