• Welcome Guest, to the Spybot Forums! It's 2025, and we just upgraded our forum software.

Today is Safer Internet Day, and with our new forum, you can finally use passkeys to login. That was about time!

Of course, you could ask if a forum is still useful, with so many social media networks out there where you might already have an account, and met a lot of users. You can now use your login from some of those networks to log in here. And by posting here, your question and data is stored on our servers and not automatically shared with a whole social media network.

We'll also start using the forum for small bits of information, announcements and more again.

Scheduled AutoRun Stalls in Update

I have set up the scheduler to run every day at 4am. When I open my laptop to begin the day, there's a pop-up asking me to choose which files to update from the list. No list to choose from, no indication if Spybot ran with/without updates.
When I manually open Spybot and click on the Update button there's no indication that the software is searching for updates; the button "pulses" a little when I click, so I know it's not a dead screen.

IS Spybot searching for updates during the daily autorun? And if so, when I'm not there to choose some files does it choose them all, or run with none, or just abort the search & destroy because I didn't answer?

I LOVE Spybot; it's treated me very well. I do, however, want to know if it's running correctly, as it always did when I ran manual scans.

Thanks!

Hello,

It seems to be a problem with the compatibility under Windows Vista.
You can solve the problem as follows:

1. Download this new SDUpdate.exe.

To use this beta file, extract the downloaded archive into the main application folder (usually C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\) and replace the old file with the new one.

2. If this does not help go to your SDUpdate.exe file in your program folder:
C:\Program Files\ Spybot - Search & Destroy\

Rightclick the file and choose properties.
Then choose the tab compatibilty.
There activate the checkbox in front of "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select from the drop down menu "WindowsXP". Now click "Apply" and "OK".

That should fix the problem.

This problem has also been discussed in our forum.

Best regards
Sandra
